They no longer play poetry on the radio
No longer exposed to life’s contextual details
We’re all lost; floating through time
Enchanted; told to swallow modern fairytales
But I’m trying to work out the specifics
Finding the reasons between the transistors
I’m guessing we’re still prone to biology
& physical failures of why I can’t resist her
I’m the footnote to your memory Everyone will remember how you touched their soul I’m just the quiet guy in the background Working hard to help make your vision whole
I’m not the one to be seen nor heard But to fade away when they extinguish the lights Forgotten once the dream falls to recess Sealed once we find our departing flights
I never wished to distract from you I humbly serve your silent grace No aim to conjure something more Merely to bask in beautiful refraction of your face
Why are we out here struggling
Working our asses off to make ends meet
Inflation keeps on rising
Can only afford to walk down the street
Searching for the righteous path
So I won’t hinder my sisters & brothers
Don’t want to dislodge Oliver’s bowl
Please Mr. President, may I have another?
But he’s in the back, fiddling slowly
Inhaling the fumes from foreign petroleum
While the value of the dollar mmm drops
Loose strings dangle, but he’s not controlling ‘em
Ready to tax any of the alms we might receive
Taking our currency without any thanks
Not looked upon as human beings
Merely a vote they use as their personal piggybanks
Paddling around the remotest parts Looking for hope where there’s no merriment Our souls evaporating in the open air Put through this vise of a social experiment Living out here minus the love & support There’s only so much a man can endure Mother Nature whirling up the darkest storms Blowing away my dreams I’m terribly sure
Hey, hey, hey, pretty mama Please send me some news It’s lonesome out here I’ve got the middle of the ocean blues
Thankful for a little spit of dry land Feeling a bit wobbly & out of sorts Having a nice cold one under a palm Time to recharge my batteries in this port Soon enough, we’ll be back floating Feeling the Earth’s rotation upon this burn Long days of sweat & toiling work Wearing my body out before I return
Hey, hey, hey, pretty mama Please send me some news It’s lonesome out here I’ve got the middle of the ocean blues
Life works a little slower in the Summer The joys of sunshine & shade not withstanding Leaving shoes by the riverside as we wade in Unplugged from society, here’s a little less demanding
These broken & delayed dreams Electric toothbrushes that constantly hum A pocketful of change & girls with eyes so pretty it makes me dumb
I’m not one to make a great scene Yet I’m your average middle-aged guy Not counted among the mundane I couldn’t be normal, even if I tried
So we’re all stuck in this spinning limbo A world with mixed up priorities & hate I’m confused by all this wasted time One of these days the hourglass will cease to rotate
So, I’m probably going to be late for work For my beautiful woman resides in this bed I could be responsible & get there on time But I’m always going to choose to love instead
Life has a way of working out When you rise in the early morning hours Sip your coffee & focus on the positive You’ll find inner strength, not superpowers Quietly sending out the proper vibes Some days – be humble & pay your dues Keep calm & marinate in your good karma For soon, you’ll be running around in your Underoos
I don’t know what the hell I’m doing I’m just trying to feel my way through This existence offers many pitfalls Working within our struggles, those Blues There’s only one way to survive here You’ve got to continue to fight your urges Finding the right path to paradise Piecing together words to sing the dirty dirges
The indoctrination is complete They molded you just right Removing the will to struggle Stripping you of the desire to fight You work for them these days A concise, common goal Gone are the thoughts of freedom An iron fist smashing your soul No longer an individual Lost all your character traits You belong to the system now Let your bones fill with hate
