Veering Away From Mainstream Society

Veering away from mainstream society
Never trusting faces on the news feed
Sensory overload from these endless reels
Algorithm demanding it knows what you need

Don’t try to overthink for yourself
For we have standards to maintain
Get in line, wait for your turn to be free
You’ll go numb; assuredly there won’t be any pain

Taking The Time To Toe The Line

Photo by ArtHouse Studio on Pexels.com

Taking the time to toe the line
Avoiding the demands of unforgiving eyes
Inventing excuses & repeating “everything’s fine”
Society’s broken where truth are all lies

Hope is now measured in slant angles & slopes
Our manufactured social media is a bust
Force fed algorithms & prickly tropes
From Camelot to dystopia when there’s no one to trust

Gather Around Children

Photo by Tima Miroshnichenko on Pexels.com

Gather around children
It’s time to listen to a tale
Of mean-spirited politicians
& how they’re trying to make society fail

Never trust those your parents elected
They’re out here banning books for kicks
Aggressively stupid speeches at rallies
While demonstrating fascist parlor tricks

Be careful to watch your language
Lest you offend an old white man
Your school libraries might be empty
But I’ll share all the books they ban

Gimme A Minute Till I Look Pretty

Gimme a minute till I look pretty
I don’t want to go out there without my cologne
I can’t deal with the sketchy people
You know, they’ve hidden away all the pay phones
I don’t trust the Gov’t hiding behind rain coats
The shadows are weary with their demodulation
Open your windows to the rain – expect justice
I shall bare my raw breast in hopes of emotional rehabilitation

Radiating A Positive Vibe Henceforth

Radiating a positive vibe henceforth

A smile & skip in the most mundane chores

Yet perceptions of domestic divinity

Always can accomplish just a little more

Backlogged Cinderella fantasies

Dancing amid a swirl with a feather duster

Cautiously watching; epically vulnerable

Wondering if my heart might trust her

It’s no fairytale ending, but a good life

A drink & a fire, quietly getting better

She’s content without our consent

Cracking a book, curling up into her sweater

On The Shores Of Ol’ Patagonia

Photo by Omar Zetina on Pexels.com

On the shores of Ol’ Patagonia
While the citizens did sleep
Youthful fear of affection
Yet into the woods, they silently creep

Don’t let on how you feel
For you might get what you want
The pain of admitting you care
& perchance it might forever haunt

The burden of carrying embarrassment
& possibly feeling regret this long
Thy youth’s clear true love
But hindsight tells me I was wrong

For I wasn’t brave enough to trust
Too busy being incorrect by name
Fear welling into my soul
But I loved her all the same

It’s not fair to bring up old times
Immaturity & self-reject are not a virtue
I don’t deserve her thoughts nor sentiments
In the end, never good enough for you

Still thinking of what might’ve been
Or an excuse to freshly misbehave
Angst & teenaged awkwardness
Take a shot & take it all to my grave

Jesus Was A Rouge Agent

Photo by Harry Smith on Pexels.com

Jesus was a rouge agent
Calling out institutions woefully unjust
Up-ending currents & the status quo
Powers that be & reigning corporate trusts

Holding fast in the face of arbitrary traditions
We won’t look to long at your offbeat proclivities
Unnerved authenticity & outspoken truth
But they’ll chalk it up as additional incivility

Looking again to God, but knowing She won’t talk
Red-lettered honesty; realism against expectation
Unvarnished tales of the meekest souls
Rapt against our most quietly brave ministrations

You Don’t See It

You don’t see it
The boys not getting enough sleep
Those who have abandoned their homes
Keeping watch over the watery deep

You don’t see it
Those who dream of something better
Youth sacrificing blindly
Riding the tide, salt spray getting wetter

You don’t see it
Loading sea bags in early morning hours
Walking the gangplank in the face of fear
Trusting their lives to a Greater Power

I’m Tired Of All The Mouthpieces & Talking Heads

fairies-1187823

I’m tired of all the mouthpieces & talking heads
I don’t trust anything on the network news
Congress & corporations are intertwined
Aimed at denying our dreams if they could choose
But I’m not going to buy into their systems
I’m not going to line up for them to call me by name
We have to figure out a better way
Or we’ll all be taken under by institutionalized shame
I don’t want to live in a world propelled by evil
I believe this hateful environment is only getting hotter
Can we not treat our neighbors as equals
What kind of world are we leaving for our daughters?

Upon Awakening

Upon awaking
I find my face littered with pixie dust
With no possibilities of faking
I’ve been visiting paradise, I trust

Off chasing adventure in the streams
& you thought I fell asleep on my book
Neverland is not only in my dreams
But these scars caused clearly by a hook

Watching Them March You Down The Hall

Photo by Anna Vedischeva on Pexels.com

Watching them march you down the hall
Empty auditoriums to drown out your words
Writing out rants my mouth will never recite
The world run not by the cool but angry nerds

Step away and log out of their data systems
We’ll send out love & peace in serial form
Never trusted anyone with such confidence
We’ll burn their egos to keep us warm
