Ringing the doorbell at the campus bookstore A vintage, pull chain contraption Antiquated, yet still rather expensive A lot of fine print within the caption
Education is a self-fulfilling myth When the public library is free Pay your tuition into the system It all depends from what lens you wish to see
You didn’t sell out, you bought in At least that’s what you regurgitate But you, yourself, are a cog in the machine Grinding out this state sponsored hate You speak of crying in the streets Heartbroken your flavor of evil didn’t win But it’s a system of corruption throughout With each career politician speaking the sin Where did all our heroes & leaders go Driven out as the bureaucracy multiplies Buried the truth in all that paperwork We’re doomed unless the people rise Against these manufactured lies
Listening to Wollstonecraft on the radio “Don’t turn that dial!”, that’s what the DJ said Not tied to any system; I’m still analog I’m dangerous; so the advertisers pled
Hereditary responsibility to the common good Therefore I don’t believe what I’ve been taught I see y’all got opinions, from your suburban thrones & these school systems regurgitating corporate rot
Criminal malpractice leaves us with poor examples But we’ve seen far worse on both sides of the aisle Bribing the lowest common denominator for votes Rewrite history, but perhaps that’s not in your files
I’ve been cast off, labeled a subversive heretic But I’m easy – so I’m doing my best to unlearn To unwind these falsehoods they tried to entrench The slow burn; time to take candor for a turn
Rash choices based upon juvenile aesthetics The understanding that we all might partake Though one must know speaking the truth too loud Turns into testimony & they might burn us all at the stake
I’m tired of all the mouthpieces & talking heads
I don’t trust anything on the network news
Congress & corporations are intertwined
Aimed at denying our dreams if they could choose
But I’m not going to buy into their systems
I’m not going to line up for them to call me by name
We have to figure out a better way
Or we’ll all be taken under by institutionalized shame
I don’t want to live in a world propelled by evil
I believe this hateful environment is only getting hotter
Can we not treat our neighbors as equals
What kind of world are we leaving for our daughters?
But the machine will keep on rolling
Until we end the tolerance of systematic lies
This is the only chance we have here
Life is not lived if it ends in a tempered sigh
The government wants to lock me up
For I don’t fit into their diabolic plan
Turning society into robotic morons
I just can’t continue to work for The Man
Trying to sell us artificial stimulants
Fickle airwaves that their bully pulpit bought
Falsified histories & professional victims
The system wipes us away without any thought
Pharmaceutical conglomerates tell us
Conscience is a personality disorder we can’t shake
Turning our daughters into Stepford Wives
Stealing our minds – hoping we’ll never wake
Corporations in league with the dolt on the throne
Continuously embarrassing the whole of humankind
Whose agenda has a limited number of characters
How the hell is this the best choice we could find
But I won’t succumb to any of their devices
I’ll take my liberty and the happiness I’ve pursued
Rejecting the crooks & ignoring their feigned power
Won’t find me in Nurse Rachet’s line; docile & queued
I can’t live a life that’s so blatantly false & empty
My soul is no longer pristine, but I’m an honest guy
I’m taking to the wilderness; leaving the State behind
I’m trading their promises for a more natural high
Watching them march you down the hall Empty auditoriums to drown out your words Writing out rants my mouth will never recite The world run not by the cool but angry nerds
Step away and log out of their data systems We’ll send out love & peace in serial form Never trusted anyone with such confidence We’ll burn their egos to keep us warm
I’m tired, weary, fatigued, however you want to call it
This world is tearing itself apart, with no end in sight
Neighbors can’t stand the appearance of each other
If we don’t swerve, we’re all going to face the fiery night
Reject hate, reject them, reject the world’s system
I don’t care if kindness long ago went out of fashion
Don’t accept your options, make your own way
We need return to art, return to love & compassion
‘They’ are anyone who’ll tell you we can’t survive
Without stooping down to unconscionable degrees
Rebel, refuse & reclaim enlightenment & love
Lead ourselves away from their dysfunctional societies
God reserves a place in Hell for those who spout hate
Whether you believe in Christ or what Buddha taught
Love doesn’t see the differences between us
We can do better; a peaceful way must be sought
Politicians are no more than door to door salesmen
Fraudulent purveyors of the American dreamscape
But we, the silent underground, emerging each day
Fed up with their vision, proof that heroes don’t wear capes
The indoctrination is complete They molded you just right Removing the will to struggle Stripping you of the desire to fight You work for them these days A concise, common goal Gone are the thoughts of freedom An iron fist smashing your soul No longer an individual Lost all your character traits You belong to the system now Let your bones fill with hate
It’s not a perfect system But it’s the best one we’ve got I’m not a card carrying member All criminals, the whole lot We’re in need of a great leader The only ones running are crooks One of these fools will be President But I’d rather elect Captain Hook
These aren’t normal times Unsure of the rational quotient They’ve diluted our sanity Wondering if our minds are still potent
Fantastical elements to the headlines Looking for a panacea to sullenly cope The system failing before our eyes With the masses clinging to any hope
Returning to kindergarten lessons Keep your hands to yourself Who knew that toilet paper Would become a perishable wealth
Looking to science for salvation But they’ve only come up with social distance The infrastructure is a trumped up facade Yet stay calm at their detached insistence
Watching the news has me feeling like Max Headroom Knowing more, yet I’m labeled as schizophrenic I have growing frustrations with stupidity The un-diagnosed symptom in this pandemic
This society is going crazy in quarantine Turn off the tube, avoid the gov’t’s quotes You’ll be safer to shutter your doors & hope zombies don’t show before the antidote
We can’t explain the horrors of the day The worst thing generations have seen We’re in this for the long haul now Or at least until we have the vaccine
This year you’re now on sabbatical We’re all sorry if you had life plans But this is the new world order Stay home & wash your damn hands
