Feeding Page After Page Into The Typewriter

Feeding page after page into the typewriter
I feel like a Saint from a forgotten realm
They could really write back then
Keeping an even keel with one hand on the helm

I’m not the pirate you bargained for
Simple words of varying degrees
I write of the love you’ve desired
But when I only smile, you call me a tease

This Pirate Is An Old Wives’ Tale

Photo by Engin Akyurt on Pexels.com

This Pirate is an old wives’ tale
Passed on by sorority sisters these days
Mythical pleasure & infatuation –
Fluttering love; let them count the ways

World renowned for his nautical exploits
But it’s not true they were all naughty
Legends told of a bad boy untrue, for
That infamous passion belongs to only one hottie

Run Away & Join The Circus

I want to run away & join the circus
To be done with this life at sea
To kiss the ground she walks on
Solid foundations forever under me

Scribbling love notes to my lady
Creating a new world of literary lust
A positive existence springing forth
My happiness nestled within her bust

No Longer Interested

No longer interested
Tell them mermaids I’m through
Adventure doesn’t beckon
My sea legs won’t follow you

I’m too old for folly
Here, I must bid you so long
Fair winds & all that
Can’t remain within earshot of the siren’s song

A Woman Of Interest

A woman of interest
But she couldn’t comprehend
Dismissing my words
Like my missives of love could ever end

She called me droll & simple
But I yearned for her feminine pleasure
Astounding all expectation
The greatest of my Pirate treasure

Beyond all your common tales
This woman; finer than her humility
Beauty isn’t a rational equation
Though her logic doesn’t equal tranquility

You Don’t Know Me

You don’t know me
You’re thinking an intellectual heavyweight
You’re imagining prestigious scrolls
But I’m still the Pirate they love to hate

A dapper fellow with impeccable manners
A literary tongue that makes the ladies shout
But I’m really a boring guy
A mere freshman dropout

Where Are The Heroes For Our Own Time

Where are the heroes for our own time
The poets & warriors to lead the charge
I’m not the effigy of your incompetent apathy
Merely the pirate of record, by & large

Who will join me among these ranks
To beat back the mind-numbing attitudes
To hell with society & its reality television
Taking my crew to more temperate latitudes

The Sea Villanelle

A love that’s only known to me
Weigh anchor – Sail with the tide
When I’m off exploring the sea

A lass that’s sassy & steadily free
Couldn’t forget her, Lord knows I tried
A love that’s only known to me

When the winds cry like a Banshee
The ocean will be my endless guide
When I’m off exploring the sea

Venturing off to a land of palm trees
Needing to nurse my wounded pride
A love that’s only known to me

In spite of life, still merely a latchkey
Waiting for when my sails have dried
When I’m off exploring the sea

A pirate – all I ever wanted to be
I’ll forever hold who’s on my side
A love that’s only known to me
When I’m off exploring the sea
